Ankush is about four young educated unemployed men of India who lost focus in their lives and ultimately ended up in wasting their skills. The movie might sound very depressing but it has got an optimistic end. The young men realized that violence cannot solve any social or even political problem. Violence would only lead to more violence and so one has to draw a line somewhere or one should have "Ankush" for it. Ankush deals with social issues like unemployment, future of young people, crime, exploitation, labor problems, distrust in the law of the land and unfair judgment by the court of the land.
The film in fact highlights the social life of young Indians which get disturbed by the corruptions at every level, political, economic, legal and so on.
These four young men could not find hope in anything and they had nothing meaningful to do till they got the assistance from the new neighbor. Though these young men were disconnected from the society yet they became friends of this new neighbor. But, when they were learning the necessity of a meaningful hard working life, they met with a tragedy. Their method of revenge was not right and they end up in committing a punishable crime. They surrendered to the police and in the trial process they realized violence cannot be a solution though they complained about the unfair legal judgments.
It is difficult for the viewers to take a side. The young men first tried the legal process but when they found all the court process turned out to be a fruitless affair, they lost hope and murdered the culprit. Ankush looks forward to a fine balance of human emotions and a society receiving fair legal judgments. The director N Chandra did a terrific job in Ankush and that too with unknown faces. Nana Patekar emerged as the moral voice against the corrupted society from this film and he is still playing the role of the conscience of the society.
