The plot of Aaina explores the life of two sisters in the Mathur household. Roma and Reema are two sisters, who live with their industrialist father and homely mother. Roma is always competitive and wants to be the best. Whatever catches her fancy has to be hers. This fact is reflected in many of her actions since childhood.

Reema on the other hand is a sweet girl and usually gives in to her sister's domineering nature. This is illustrated in the fancy dress competition that was won by Reema. However, Roma would not settle for second best and threw a tantrum. Reema willingly sacrificed her prize for her sister's happiness.

The story of Aaina progresses to several years after.

Now both the sisters are in their youth. Roma, who is a model, is ambitious and is trying for films. Reema stays at home, interacts with her family and helps her mother. Reema secretly fancies dashing, handsome industrialist Ravi Saxena. Howevert, on the other hand, Roma meets Ravi and the two are attracted to each other.

Later, Ravi asks for Roma's hand in marriage. With her parents consent a date is fixed and preparations are started. Reema, though heartbroken, is happy for her sister. The wedding date arrives but the bride is missing.

Roma apparently had an offer for a film and giving more importance to her career, she runs away on her wedding day. Ravi then asks for Reema's hand and the two get married the same day. Reema settles down to married life and eventually the two fall in love. Roma chooses to come back at this point of time and is angry to see Reema married to Ravi.

She throws a challenge to Reema that Ravi belongs to her and she will take him away from her. Reema accepts the challenge stating that a married woman will always protect her marriage. It remains to be seen whether Roma is successful or not? Will Ravi realize Reema's worth or will he fall for Roma's charm?

The cast of Aaina consists of - Amrita Singh as Roma, Juhi Chawla as Reema and Jackie Shroff as Ravi. The film was directed by Deepak Sareen and was produced by Pamela Chopra. Amrita Singh delivered an excellent performance, for which she won the Filmfare in the category of the Supporting Actor (Female).
