Aadmi released in 1948 explores the emotions of sacrifice, duty and love. This story prominently portrays the inner turmoil of a disabled man and the sense of duty for his wife and friend.

Rajesh an orphaned and wealthy boy suffers from an unnatural obsession over things. The obsessive love that leads to killing starts off the story of the movie-Aadmi. Rajesh had a fondness for a girl named Meena. One day suddenly Meena passes away. He is devastated and replaces her with a doll. He is very obsessive about this doll and does not let anybody play with it. One day he finds a young boy playing with this doll, in a fit of rage Rajesh kills him. The story now moves several years and shows Rajesh as a grown up man.

Rajesh is now an amiable man who owns the huge palatial household. He has a friend called Shekhar, whom he has helped to get a lucrative job in a hospital.

Shekhar, played by Manoj Kumar is a dashing young man who is content with life. Dr Shekhar falls in love with the daughter Meena who is the daughter of one of Rajesh's servants. This woman Meena is a straightforward girl and has a no non-sense approach to life.

Meena too reciprocates Shekhar's feeling and the two plans a future together. This is where the story of Aadmi takes an unprecedented turning. Rajesh too falls in love with Meena and wants to marry her. Shekhar and Meena do not tell Rajesh about their relationship. Rajesh had helped both of them and their sense of duty prevents them from revealing the truth.

The preparations for the wedding are lavish and soon the two get married. Soon after the wedding, the couple meets with an accident and Rajesh is disabled. Meena stands by him in his tough time and Shekhar makes regular visits. Rajesh slowly starts suspecting a relationship between his best friend and his wife. His old possessiveness once again starts emerging and a devious plot begins to crop up in his mind. His vengeance and jealousy will find a victim in Shekhar. Will Shekhar be able to escape his wrath? That remains to be seen.

Aadmi was directed by A. Bhimsingh and the dialogues were penned by Akhtar - Ul - Iman and Kaushal Bharati. The songs were composed by Naushad and have melodious tunes like "Kari Badariya", "Kaise Haseen Raat" and "Na Aadmi Ka Koi Bharosa".
