Apart from good story, good film direction and great performance by the actors and actresses, the music directors used to contribute largely behind the success of the romantic movies. Thanks to the great work done by Bappi Lahiri, one of the leading music directors of that time, Tohfa will always be membered for some of the superhit songs like Gori tere ang ang, Pyar ka tohfa, O milan, albela mausam and Ek Aankh Maroon To.
The story of Tohfa was also a major reason behind its commercial success in the cinema halls. The story of the movie is about a love triangle. A person falls in love with two sisters and finds himself in big trouble when he is asked to love one and marry the other. Jitendra, one of the most popular film stars of that time played the male lead role in Tohfa and Jaya Pradha and Sri Devi portrayed the roles of two sisters. Sri Devi who was almost a newcomer at that point of time, impressed movie watchers with her mind-blowing performance throughout the movie.
Both Jitendra and Jaya Pradha were also appraised for their superb performance. Besides, Shakti kapoor, who played the villain in Tohfa won people's heart with his typical style of throwing dialogue. As the films stars Jaya Pradha and Sri Devi, who apart from their acting are also very well known as dancers, dancing is one of its major highlights. There are several dance sequences in the movie that have made it more entertaining.
Tohfa was released on February 3, 1984 and was proved to be one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the year.
