Sunny-the movie was released in 1984 and was proved to be one of the biggest hits of the year. The cinema halls that showed Sunny earned huge revenue for several months and the actors and actresses were praised for their great performance in the movie. In fact, the star cast of Sunny was a major reason for its success. Both Dharmendra Deol and his elder son Sunny Deol portrayed their characters very well, Sharmila Tagore was just great and Waheeda Rehman was successful in making her on screen character alive.
Amrita Singh, who played the lover of Sunny Deol, is also up to the mark.
The story of Sunny is little offbeat compared to many other romantic movies that were made in Bollywood in early 1980s. Though it is a romantic movie, the highlight of the movie is the clash between the two female lead characters, Mrs Gayetri Inderjeet (oplayed by Waheeda Rehman) and Sitara (played by Sharmila Tagore).
In the movie, Inderjeet (played by Dharmendra) is a wealthy person who fell in love with Gayatri and married her. But he is not happy with his married life as his wife is unable to bear him children. A frustrated Inderjeet starts avoiding Gayetri and finally meets a call girl named Sitara. Inderjeet falls in love with Sitara and once again makes her pregnant. When Gayatri discovers this truth about her husband she decides to prevent Sitara from getting the love of Inderjeet, which is deprived of.
Inderjeet suddenly dies in a plane crash leaving Sitara alone and Gayatri decides to take advantage of the situation. She invites Sitara to her home, waits till she delivers the child and then informs her that the child was still born. Sitara sadly leaves Gayatri's home. Gayatri adapts Sitara's child (Sunny Deol) and at his young age he falls in love with a girl named Amrita (played by Amrita Singh).
Gayatri was initially happy with her son's affair but things suddenly take a u-turn when Gayatri discovers Amrita's identity. She starts opposing her son's marriage and this changes the life of Amrita and Sunny forever. After a series of incidents, Sunny finds his real identity too. But what happens after that?
