Directed by Nikhil Advani and featuring numerous starcast including Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Govinda, Shannon Esra, Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar in lead roles, 'Salaam- E- Ishq' is a 2007 Bollywood movie. Weaving a number of love stories together, 'Salaam- E- Ishq' is Advani's 2nd directorial venture after 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'. The shooting of the movie started in November 2005 and was completed by July 2006. Released on January 25, 2007, the movie is one of the renowned Bollywood romantic movies.
'Salaam- e- Ishq' is the story of 6 couples from different parts of the world. Ignorant about each others' existence, they are brought together by destiny, fate and love:
The first couple sketched in the movie is Ashutosh (John Abraham) and Tehzeeb (Vidya Balan). They work together to make their two-year-old love marriage a success. Ashutosh is Hindu while Tehzeeb is Muslim. Because of this, their families disapproved of their marriage and it results in rupture between the parents and children.
Ashutosh is an editor at a television news channel, while Tehzeeb is a field reporter at the same. However, their small yet happy world is soon dislocated when Tehzeeb meets with a tragic accident on the job and thus resulting in retrograde amnesia. The amnesia completely robs her of her memories of the previous two years. Finally, Tehzeeb decides to leave Ashutosh, as she has no recollection of him and cannot stand to see him suffer. Ashutosh is left with his fragments of love for Tehzeeb.
Raju Taxiwala (Govinda) and Stephanie (Shannon Esrechowitz are seen involved in a silent and unspoken relationship of distance. It happened because of the fact that Raju had met this lovely blonde girl 15 years before at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
Vinay Malhotra (Anil Kapoor) and his wife Seema (Juhi Chawla) are introduced. Theirs is a happy and stable family. Vinay has everything in his life but still he is restless and getting bored of his routined middle-class life. Then he comes across Anjali (Anjana Sukhani) who is a modern London-based girl with unrivaled confidence and determination. She wants everything, including Vinay.
In the meantime, Gia (Ayesha Takia) and her fiance Shiven (Akshaye Khanna) have problems of their own. They are engaged, but Shiven breaks the engagement. Shiven wants Gia back but Gia's father has arranged her marriage with Rohit, Stephanie's boyfriend. Shiven realizes that he loves Gia too much to let her marry someone else and decides to find her.
The story now shifts to the world of superstars. A Bollywood superstar, Kamini (Priyanka Chopra), has a problem with her career - she is a superstar, but is known as an "item girl" rather than a complete heroine. Kamini finally hatches a plan to rid herself of her image and become a total heroine from every aspect. In order to get a lead role in a Karan Johar movie, she announces to the media that she is in a serious relationship with a man named 'Rahul', who in reality does not exist at all.
From superstars, the setting changes to the ordinary society of which Ramdayal (Sohail Khan) and Phoolwati (Ishaa Koppikar) are a part of. A newly wed couple, they want to spend all their time in each other's arms.
We can sum up with the comments of Poonam Joshi of Channel 4. She described the movie as "innovative and utterly hilarious" and saying it "redefines the genre of romantic comedy".
