Different types of movies are made by some of the most talented filmmakers in Bollywood every year and a major percentage of the movies Saajan is one of the most popular Bollywood romantic movies. The movie was directed by the renowned director Lawrence D'Souza. The leading star cast of Saajan includes the famed Indian actors like Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. The movie was released on August 30, 1991.

Today, Saajan is seen as an inspiration for almost all post-1990 triangular love stories in Indian Cinema. This is a movie which features comedy, love, tragedy, betrayal, romance, sacrifice and a fine musical score.

Sanjay Dutt plays the role of Aman Varma or Sagar, a popular poet. He is a poor and handicapped orphan who is befriended by affluent Akash Varma. Salman Khan plays the role of Akash Varma, who is the son of a rich man.

Both of them play characters that are completely different from each other. Aman Verma is a serious poet who writes poems under the pen name Sagar. The poems get published, and Sagar becomes famous. Akash on the other hand, is a womanizer and takes life carelessly. However, they Aman and Akash become the best of friends and are very caring towards eachother.

Pooja Saxena is a young woman and a fan of Sagar. The role of Pooja Sexena is played by Madhuri Dixit. However when Akash meets Pooja, he falls in love with her. When Aman comes to know this, he asks Akash to pretend as Sagar, which he does. Ultimately Pooja and Akash fall in love with each other.

The heartbroken Aman also loves Pooja but he carries on with his sorrow. He believes that though women like his poetry, no woman will love him and accept him when she sees his handicap.

Meanwhile, Akash discovers that Aman is actually Sagar and loves Pooja. When this realization dawns on him, he decides to sacrifice his love for Aman. Pooja ultimately gets the love of Sagar, the man she had always loved in her heart.

Sajan was a huge hit at the box office after its release. The audience accepted the film very well and the critics praised it too. Nadeem Saifi and Shravan Rathod won Filmfare Award for Best Music Director (1992) for the movie. Kumar Sanu was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer (1992) for the song "Mera dil bhi" of Sajan. Sanjay Dutt was nominated Filmfare Award for Best Actor (1992) and Madhuri Dixit was nominated Filmfare Award for Best Actress (1992).
