Roja tells us vividly, how a lonely girl struggles to save her husband's life, but in vain. No other directors have displayed such a brave attempt to deal with such a sensitive issue of Kashmir. The movie is considered among the best Bollywood Romantic Movies from Indian film industry from the 90s.

Roja can surely be considered in the list of famous musical movies, since the movie has a good number of melodious songs. The music direction of this movie is done by the debutant A.R. Rehman. The songs of Roja are voted as one of the top ten soundtracks of the world. The excellence which the film has achieved is being rewarded. The movie got the nomination for 1993 Moscow International Film Festival (Russia). The film has won the 1993 National Film Awards (India) and Won - Silver Lotus Award for Best Music Director, best lyricist and best feature film on National Integration.
