Rangeela is one of the popular Bollywood romantic movies. This romantic Bollywood movie was released in 1995. The movie was directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It starred Bollywood stars Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff and Urmila Matondkar. Rangeela was also the first Hindi movie where music director A. R. Rahman had an original score.
Various songs of Rangeela were sung by the famous playback singer Asha Bhonsle. She made a comeback with singing A.R. Rehman's songs which went to become huge hits. This Bollywood blockbuster was considered a landmark in the Indian commercial movie industry. The movie featured an excellent music score, breakthrough performances and excellent direction. The plot of the movie was also well thought of. Rangeela was based on an old Telugu movie SeethaMalakshmi which was released in 1978.
The main actors Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar were excellent in their acting. It brought out their superb talents. Aamir Khan plays the character Munna. He set aside his 'sweet college kid' persona and put on a street urchin persona. His acting shows he had done extensive research on the character. On the other hand, Urmila showed her talents not only in acting but also in dancing.
Urmila Matondkar plays the character Mili who is frank, direct, open, a modern girl and aspires to be an actress. She does not portray the traditional shy sweet type of girl shown in numerous Bollywood movies. The beautiful character Mili is a dancer in Bollywood movie and lives in Mumbai. Munna is also Mili's neighborhood friend and deals in small time petty business like selling tickets. He encourages her to try her hand in films and helps her in becoming a star.
She wants to become a movie star herself and watches the various lifestyles of Bollywood artists. Later she gets a chance of dancing in a movie which gives a head start in her career. She becomes a well known star which catches the attention of superstar Raj Kamal played by Jackie Shroff.
The superstar falls in love with Mili. But a problem arises as Munna also loves Mili. This love triangle results in various twists and turns in the movie. A question comes to Mili if she can leave her old friend behind and carry on with her dreams and aspirations? But in the end of movie, Mili gets back to Munna and marries him.
