Story of Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha

Sanjana played by Kajol is an Indian girl who lives in Paris in France. She is scared of flying in an airplane. She works in Paris for her uncle played by Harish Patel. She is engaged to Rahul played by Bijay Anand. Rahul has asked her to go for a business trip to India with him. She decided to make an attempt and got seated in the airplane with Rahul. However, when the plane was about to take off Sanjana could not control her fear and got out of the pane after making a lot of confusion.

One day Rahul tells her on phone that he has met Nisha( Kasmira Shah) in India and has fallen in love with her. He breaks her relationship with Sanjana. Sanjana is heart broken and angry. She decides to go to India and win him back from Nisha. She musters a lot of courage and gets on a plane flying to India. On the plane she meets Shekhar played by Ajay Devgan. He is a thief who is escaping to India after stealing a diamond necklace from Paris. He hides the necklace in a plant in his bag. Seated beside her, he distracts her by saying things about her relationship with Rahul which make her angry and she completely forgets about the fact that the plane is taking off.

When they come to India Rahul takes her to his village. There she comes to know that Shekhar has stolen the necklace as he needed money for his nephew's operation. She decides not to say anything about the theft to the police. Shekhar, in return promises to help help her to win back Rahul. As he teaches her the various ways how to grab the attention of Rahul he falls in love with Sanjana. According to Shekhar's plan Sanjana would introduce him to Rahul as his boyfriend and tell him that she has a large inheritance. Rahul feels jealous and comes back to Sanjana. Sanjana rejects him as she realizes that she is in love with Shekhar.

Meanwhile a police inspector played by Om Puri is after Shekhar. He proposes to Sanjana that if she makes Shekhar give back the necklace then he would not arrest him. Shekhar asks her to go to the bank and sell the necklace with the assumption that no one will suspect Sanjana. Sanjana goes to the bank and gives the necklace to Om Puri instead. She gives all the money she has saved by working in Paris to Shekhar who thinks that the money has been given by the bank in exchange for the necklace. She decides to go back to Paris. When On Puri tells him what Sanjana had done for him he asks Sanjana not to go to Paris and told her that he loved her. This Bollywood version of French Kiss is a favorite of the movie buffs.
