The Bollywood movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which not only did great business in India but also abroad was released in 1998 and was the debut film of Karan Johar as a director in Bollywood. This movie also stars the popular pair of Shahrukh and Kajol being paired up with Rani Mukherjee. This movie by Karan Johar is known especially for its background and decorative set of the movie which invariably reflects an air of liveliness that`s evident in college students. This movie also won numerous awards at the Filmfare Award occasion of 1999. This movie is, in fact the second movie which won the 4 major awards at the Filmfare for the best movie, best actor, best actress and best director.

The movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starts with Rani or Tina on death bed while giving birth to her child and following this the sequence features Tina and Rahul or Shahrukh`s daughter Anjali who is 8 years old and on her 8th birthday she gets the letter that Tina had written to her before dying.

In this letter Tina writes about Shahrukh and Kajol`s life in college when they were friends and with the coming of Tina or Rani in Shahrukh`s life Kajol or Anjali left Rahul alone as she also loved Rahul.

The movie mostly focuses on how the 8 year old child tries in every possible way to bring Kajol back into Shahrukh`s life. Kajol in the meantime is supposed to get married to Salman Khan or Aman but due to the astrologer`s advice the marriage is postponed for sometime and in the process Kajol goes off to some summer camp where Anjali the 8 year old child of Tina and Rahul also follows her. In search of his daughter Rahul also lands up in the summer camp where he spends some time with Kajol and falls in love with her. Lastly Aman on the day of marriage finds out about the secret love between Anjali and Rahul and so he refuses to marry Anjali and instead asks Rahul to marry her much to every ones happiness.

This movie other than being a romantic Bollywood movie also focuses on the various characters distinctly as they bring the various emotions to life. Farida Jalal being Shahrukh`s mother in this movie does a great job through her comic yet sensible acting skills. Kajol has done a unique job while portraying the role of a peppy college going girl who journeyed into being a woman maintaining the image of an Indian woman and being appealing at the same time.

Shahrukh in his role as a college stud maturing into a caring father has reflected the emotions of a boy and a man with great ease while Rani playing the matured woman from the very beginning was probably the right person who suited the role.
