The Bollywood blockbuster Junglee released in the year 1961 is one among the all time hits produced and directed by Subodh Mukherjee. Shankar Jaikishan is credited with giving music in this movie while the lyrics of this movie is known to come from Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. This Hindi movie of the early 1960s is known to feature the popular stars like Shammi Kapoor, Lalita Pawar, Shashikala, and Saira Banu as the Debut actress. Saira Banu in this movie got the Best Actress nomination for the Filmfare Awards which made her a star. This lighthearted romantic musical movie with its share of action and drama added to Shammi Kapoor`s image as the youth icon and the Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe starting with a Yahoo added to the appeal of the movie. This movie features Shammi Kapoor (Chandrashekhar) who belongs to an aristocratic family and is totally against laughing and making merry in life. Lalita Pawar being the dominating mother asks Shekhar to take away his sister Mala played by Shashikala to Kashmir as she finds out about Mala`s love affair with Jeevan or Anoop Kumar.



In Kashmir, Shekhar comes across the jubilant and fun loving Rajkumari (Saira Banu) and in the process they fall in love which transforms Shekhar totally. In the mean time Shekhar`s sister Mala gives birth to a child and they try to hide the identity of the child from Lalita Pawar. In the mid of the movie Lalita Pawar has a misunderstanding about Saira Banu and at the same time there are few other people who try to intrude in order to get the money of Shekhar`s family. At one point of time Lalita Pawar gets the idea that Mala`s child is actually Rajkumari`s child but this confusion is also cleared up later.

This movie despite having the typical Bollywood story is known for the strong factors like melodious songs, beautiful lyrics and strong acting from all the actors which all the more made the characters of the movie come to life. Few of the songs which are considered to be all time favorites with the viewers are Din sara Guzara, Kashmir Ki kali hoon main, Ehsaan Tera Hoga, Suku Suku, Ja Ja Ja Mere Bachpan, Yahoo!, and Nain Tumhare. The voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad. Rafi were at work for these songs in the movie as the protagonists lipped the songs.
