Pooja is madly in love with a movie star Deepak Kumar, played by Sameer Chitre. But the stone in her side was that her father was completely against her affair.
One day, Pooja escapes from her father`s yacht and runs off to Bangalore where she knew that Deepak Kumar was shooting for a movie. On her way, in a bus, she meets a poor and down on his luck man named Raghu Jetley, played by Aamir Khan. Raghu is a loud mouthed but honest reporter who is literally on the verge of loosing his job. Raghu learns of her escapade and smells the promise of a spectacular story out of her plight that could turn his luck around.
When the bus breaks down in the middle of their journey, Raghu strikes a deal with Pooja. He tells her that he would help her reach her destination if in turn she gave him the rights to an exclusive story on her. Pooja agrees unwillingly as Raghu threatens to tell her father about her whereabouts.
As they set out on their journey together, Raghu and Pooja come across a number of adventures that shapes their feelings and attitude towards each other. By the end of their travel they end up falling in love with each other. Raghu realizes the futility of his feelings as he is in no financial condition to marry Pooja. A number of misunderstandings also threaten to tear apart their relationship. Pooja ends up thinking that all he wanted from the starting was to get his hands on the reward money that her father had promised..
But, everything falls into place in the end. Pooja realizes her folly and abandons her fiancée on her marriage day to run back to her true love, Raghu Jetley.
