Dhadkan is one of the most successful romantic Bollywood movies in the year 2000. Dhadkan was directed by Dharmesh Darshan, one of the well k own Bollywood directors.
The story of Dhadkan revolves around Anjali who is in love with Dev. But because of his poor status her father disapproves of Anjali's choice. Instead he tells her to leave him because he is worthless and does not truly love her. She is emotionally blackmailed by her parents to marry another man. Dev, pained by the developments asks her to leave him. Torn asunder by circumstances Anjali's resistance wears out and she finally submits to her parents wishes. Anjali's parents arrange for her to marry Ram, a rich man.
Ram is a man of great ideals. He believed in giving the rightful place to his wife and always respects her sensibilities. But, despite the qualities he is unable to win Anjali's love. Their marriage remains short of becoming consummate.
While on one hand, Anjali had to cope with unrequited love on the other she had to contend with her greedy mother in law. Her misery compounds in her new home as she is constantly bullied by her mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. After a confrontation it finally gets revealed that Ram's family is only after his fortune. However, Anjali gets to know her husband begins to have a soft corner for her husband.
Much to her shock Anjali is introduced to Dev in a party hosted to celebrate their third wedding anniversary. Dev is now a wealthy and successful man. Consumed by hatred Dev, is out to destroy Anjali's marriage. He wants Anjali to desert Ram and come back to him. Anjali decides to play the ideal wife.
In the climax of the film Ram becomes bankrupt. He moves out of his house with Anjali, which is bought by Dev. However, a lonely Dev soon realizes that Anjali's commitment for Ram is strong enough to endure his tirade. He feels for sure he can never again win back Anjali. With the realization having dawned Dev returns the house back to Ram, and leaves India.
Akshay Kumar played the role of Ram whereas Sunil Shetty acted as Dev. Shilpa shetty played the role of Anjali. The film also has Parmeet Sethi, Sushma Seth, Manjeet Kular and Kiran Kumar. Besides, there are friendly appearances by Mahima Chowdhary and Sharmila Tagore.
Nadeem and Shravan churned out the romantic melodies of the movie.
