In the movie, Balwant and Dinesh Singh Girji (played by Shammi Kapoor) are two friends. When Girji discovers that his friend is bankrupt, he refuses to help him. A frustrated Balwant commits suicides leaving his wife (played by Nirupa Roy) and son (played by Sonu Nigam). Balwant and Girji are neighbors and Girji`s daughter Roma and Sunny are childhood friends. But suddenly Girji decides to shift somewhere else and the friendship between Sunny and Roma breaks.

They meet each other once again after several years on a railway station and after quarreling for some time they discover that they are known to each other. The broken friendship between Roma and Sunny gets reconstructed once again and eventually they fall in love with each other. But when Girji comes to know about Sunny`s identity, he opposes the relationship. The story is all about Sunny and Roma and the difficulties they face on the path of their love.
