Director Abbas Mustan always has the reputation of having a different way to present his movies. His list of movies may not be long, but each of them has appealed to the movie lovers. Baazigar is an ideal specimen of his directorial excellence. This 1993 movie is a remake of a Hollywood thriller A Kiss Before Dying. The movie can be interpreted as a romantic thriller starring Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Shilpa Shetty and others. Produced by Ganesh Jain, the movie gifted the Hindu movie industry with a different story.
The subject of the movie is to portray a young man who is unstoppable when it comes to avenge on others. It has to be noted that the Indian audience was not used to see their Heroes in a villainous role, which the director deliberately portrayed. In Baazigar, Shahrukh Khan played the role of an ambiguous hero. It is also his first movie as a villain. Baazigar is also the debut movie of actor Shilpa Shetty. The movie was a huge success at the box office.
As far as the story is concerned Ajay Sharma, (Shahrukh Khan) is out to seek revenge of his father's painful condition. His father, Vishwanath Sharma was betrayed by Madan Chopra (Dalip Tahil) and ultimately his business shattered.
The suffering of his family filled Ajay with a sense of vengeance. He has to experience immense mental suffering as his sister dies soon after the death of his father. His mother suffers from fits of insanity. The whole movie of Baazigar depicts how Ajay turned out to be a malicious hero always in search of revenge.
The role played by Sharukh khan is appreciated by all and he rose to fame. Shilpa Shetty did her best in her debut film to justify the character of Seema Chopra, the daughter of the industrialist Madan Chopra. The role of Kajol in Baazigar as Priya M. Chopra was truly fascinating. She seemed to have made the character look so realistic on screen. The movie is listed in the popular Bollywood Romantic Movies.
Much of the reputation about Bazigar is not only due to its exceptional storyline, but also for its melodious soundtrack. The excellent music direction by Anu Malik has gifted the movie with a number of good songs. The touching voice of Asha Bhosle, Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik made the songs wonderful to listen. The movie has bagged a number of awards for Best Actor (Shahrukh Khan), Best Male Playback Singer (Kumar Sanu), Best Music Direction (Anu Malik) and Best Screenplay Award.
