Awarapan is a Bollywood movie inspired from a Korean film - 'A Bittersweet Life' by Kim Ji-woon's. Awarapan is a different movie compared to other Bollywood movies that speak of the underworld. From a passionate love story to spirituality and action, this movie is all about entertainment at its best.
Emraan Hashmi's performance in the movie is worth being appreciated. This stylized movie is supported by strong performances by all the actors. Emraan Hashmi plays the character of Shivam who is in the lookout for happiness. But what he finds is loneliness and pain. It is about the journey of a forlorn lover who tries to escape from his past. He serves his gangster boss, Malik (Ashutosh Rana). Malik owns a chain of hotels in Hong Kong.
Malik asks Shivam to keep a vigil on his mistress Reema (Mrinalini Sharma) while he was on his business trip. Reema was a prey of human trafficking who found her way only in the hands of Malik. Malik had 'bought' this young Pakistani girl in the flesh market.
If Shivam finds out that Reema is cheating Malik then he had to take her life. But from the moment Shivam sees Reema, he is reminded of his lost love.
Shivam eventually finds out that Reema has a secret boyfriend. In fact, she had also planned to flee with him. This is the turning point of the movie, where Shivam needs to take a stand. Whether he remains loyal to Malik and goes against his own principles or saves the life of Reema is the climax of the movie.
This dark and violent movie is certainly worth watching. The music for Awarapan is composed by Pritam Chakraborty. The Sufi-based song "Tera mera rishta" is very popular. Sayeed Qadri and Asif Ali Baig were the lyricists of the movie.
Awarapan was produced by a Pakistani production house. Mohit Suri was the director of the movie. It was the first joint production between Pakistan and India.
The cast of the movie include:
