Govinda used to reside in a quaint town of Malaga in the state of Goa. One day a fortune-teller tells Tony that his dream lady will come to his life. The fortune-teller also predicts that the lady will change his life altogether for betterment. Hearing this, Tony finds himself lost in his dreams.

One day, while Tony was waiting for this client in the airport, Sonia played by Aishwariya Rai walks in. She has come to Malaga in search of the grave of her mother. Seeing her, Tony thinks her to be the lady of his dreams.

He falls for her. He was also the guide of Sonia in Malaga. Sonia comes from a very rich family. She was an outgoing and a friendly girl. Ultimately, both them became good friends. Tony becomes crazy in love for Sonia.

The other main character of Albela is Neena. The role of Neena is played by Namrata Shirodkar. She was the childhood pal of Tony. She was in love with Tony. She never expressed her emotions for him. Sonia is unaware for the unexpressed feelings of Tony towards her. When Sonia comes to Tony's house she came across a small poem written by Prem. Sonia again is already in love with another man played by Jackie Shroff.
