If you like to watch romantic movies, then a Bollywood romantic movie can prove to be a great choice. There are plenty of Bollywood romantic movies dating back to 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s that had earned huge commercial and critical success during their time. Agar Tum na Hote is one such movie that you will surely enjoy watching. One of the best Bollywood romantic movies of all times Agar Tum na Hote portrays impressive handling of the story, some great acting and melodious music.
Agar Tum na Hote-the movie was released on November 1983 and proved to be one of the biggest hits of the year. It earned a huge recognition both commercially and critically and the actors and actresses were praised for their great performance on the screen. Like many other Bollywood romantic movies of that time music played an important role in popularizing the movie. Some great tracks composed by Rahul Dev Burman still tops the all time favorite chart. The film was produced by Rajeev Kumar and was directed by Lekh Tandon.
The story of Agar Tum na Hote is about a photographer, Raj Bedi (played by Raj Babbar), who meets an attractive girl named Radha (played by Rekha) and decides to marry her. They were enjoying a happy married life when suddenly Raj met with an accident and their life changed totally from then onwards. Though he survived but lost his legs and eventually becomes jobless.
For earning the livelihood of the family and more importantly to arrange money for Raj's treatment, Radha starts looking for a job and finally gets appointed as the governess of an young girl in a wealthy family. The younger girl is the daughter of Ashok Mehra (played by Rajesh Khanna), an industrialist who has lost his wife. Radha starts working there and within a short period of time she develops a good relation with the little daughter of Ashok Mehra.
But after a series of incidents Radha discovers that she resembles the deceased wife of Ashok Mehra and finds that his daughter is thinking that her mother has come back and it was the main reason behind Mehra hiring her. What will Radha do now? Will she sacrifice her handicapped husband and start living with Ashok Mehra and his daughter to earn the money or will she refuse to do the job and get back to her husband? Well that's the most interesting part and the climax of Agar Tum na Hote. It is surely going to touch your heart. While speaking about Agar Tum na Hote one has to say a few words about the romantic songs sung by some of the greatest playback singers of Indian cinema. The male and female version of the title track Agar Tum na Hote was sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, Dheere Dheere Zara Zara was sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kal to Sunday Ki Chhuti was sung by Shailendra Singh and Rekha herself. Kishore Kumar won the Filmfare Award for the Best male Playback Singer for the song Agar Tum na Hote.
