This film being a romantic Bollywood movie provides the audiences with the extra treat of scenes shot in the destinations of London and Edinburgh. This movie with its share of screenplay and story offers the audiences with not only some picturesque locations in London but also entertains them with skilled acting from the actors in this film who have made the characters come to life.
The story starts with the lives of Dayashankar, Pooja and Parvati. Dayashankar (Amrish Puri) being a successful NRI businessman stays in London with his wife Parvati (Reema Lagoo) and their daughter Pooja (Madhuri Dixit). Aman (Saif Ali Khan) is the son of Dayashankar's deceased friend whom Dayashankar had brought up since childhood. Aman in the process of growing up has developed a soft corner for Pooja and is overjoyed at the idea of coming back to his home from Edinburgh where he was studying. He plans to ask for Pooja's hand in wedding but is disappointed to know that Pooja is in love with Vijay Khanna (Akshay Kumar) who is professionally a pilot.
Dayashankar was initially against getting his daughter married to Vijay as he had promised to Aman previously to marry her off with him. Lastly with some persuasion from both Aman and Parvati, Dayashankar agrees for the marriage. Aman, though he is heart broken turns up at Pooja's engagement with Vijay and he behaves normally to hide his feelings. In the mid of all the enjoyments Vijay faces an accident which leads to his death and Pooja who goes into depression also realizes that she's pregnant with his child.
Aman at this point of time agrees to marry her and accept her with the child. Following the marriage Pooja starts a new life with Aman and soon starts loving him. Meanwhile Vijay who was expected to be dead comes back in search for Pooja and finds out that she's married with Aman. Another conspiracy which surfaces at this point of time is the fact that Vijay's accident was actually planned by Pooja's father.
