Sikander is one of the most successful historical films ever made in Bollywood. This is a popular period movie based upon the popular historical characters of Alexander the Great and Porus. The entire film revolves around the incident when Alexandar or Sikander defeated Puru and took him under his prison. He then asked Puru what kind of treatment he wants from him and Puru replied the similar way that a king could be treated by another king.
The look and the treatment of the film was the main highlight of the movie which can only be compared with the standard of Hollywood. The dramatic and strong dialogue delivery of the talented actors Prithviraj Kapoor and Sohrab Modi was also the USP of the movie. The powerful performances offered by them and their personality brought a huge number of audiences to the theater. The lavish setting of the film is also worth mentioning.
The film was released when the World War II spread to India. Thus, the political atmosphere in the country was tensed and complex. As a result, the film was banned from screening in some of the theaters which were serving the army cantonment.
