Chakra is one of the greatest movies which can be categorized under parallel cinema of Indian film industry. The film was made by a popular and talented filmmaker of Rabindra Dharmaraj. Chakra was released in 1981 and deals with some of the most critical social issues and the life of slum dwellers. The film stars Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

Chakra, the popular movie was power packed with the performances of these actors and actresses of Bollywood. The storyline of the movie is strong and becomes the highlight of the movie. The film is based upon the lifestyle of the poor slum dwellers in Bombay. Amma, played by Smita Patil, is one of the main protagonists of the movie who live with his son Benwa in a slum of Bombay. Hr husband killed a moneylender who tried to rape Amma and then was shot while stealing some materials to build a hut.

Amma then starts living with a pimp and criminal Lukka, which is played by Nasiruddin Shah. This man becomes the idol for Benwa and both of them were started working together and involve in several criminal activities. Another man enters in Amma's life called Anna, played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda. He is a truck driver and loves Amma, because of which she becomes pregnant. On the other hand, Lukka and Benwa were chased by the cops and they took shelter in Amma's house. Amma gets a miscarriage and the cops arrest the criminals. At the end of the movie the entire slum is destroyed with a bulldozer.

Chakra gave some of the great award to the actors and actresses as well as other people behind the camera. The awards are:
