Critical movies belong to a different genre. They differ in every aspect from the simple entertainment based movies. Most of the Bollywood critical movies are generally slow paced ones, less action and good characters played by some good and established actors. Since its inception, Bollywood has made many different genre of movies out of these some commendable creations have made a mark in the Indian film industry. Usually the critical movies are made correlating with hard-core realities of life occurring in most cases. Some of the finest Bollywood critical movies are as discussed below:
Fire: This Deepa Mehta film is one of the famous Bollywood critical movies starring Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das, Kulbooshan Karbanda and Jaaved Jafferi. The movie centers on the story of two women married into a traditional family, settled in Delhi, fighting to survive and find their identity in their male dominated domestic lives respectively. The elder brother Ashok (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is married to Radha, played by Shabana Azmi is leading a life of chastity.
However the younger brother Jatin (Jaaved Jaferi) marries Sita, an outstanding role played by Nandita Das. They also have a disinterested married life. In such a critical situation they turn to each other for support, companionship and share emotions. Soon their closeness turns into a relationship both spiritual and sexual. The slow music has been given by A.R. Rahman.
Paap: Made under Pooja Bhatt's direction Paap is one of a well-known Bollywood critical movies starring Udita Goswami, John Abraham, Mohan Aghashe and Gulshan Grover. 'Paap' is the first Bollywood film to make its premiere at Kara Film Festival at Karachi. The film is co-produced by Sujit Kumar Singh. The film is shot on the beautiful locations of Ladakh. The composition of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has also contributed a lot to the movie. Original Soundtracks of the film are on Sa Re Ga Ma.
Omkara: Omkara directed by Vishal Bhardwaj is a Kumar Mangat production. The cast includes Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi, Naseeruddin Shah, Bipasha Basu. The movie released on 21st june 2006. The film is based on Shakespeare's Othello and has Ajay Devgan in the lead role.
Water: Directed by Deepa Mehta and produced by David Hamilton, Water belongs to the art film genre based on social issues. Released on November 2005, Water stars Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray, John Abraham, Sarala, Manorma, Raghuveer Yadav, Khulbhushan Kharbanda, Waheeda Rehman.
