Namastey London is one of the most popular movies released in the year 2007. Vipul Amrutlal Shah's Namastey London is a cross-cultural love story. The film became extremely popular among both non residential Indians and core Indian audiences, because of the interesting storyline, brilliant performance by Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif and foot tapping numbers.
Cast and Crew of the Film Namastey London:
Namastey London is a multi-star movie. Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif play the lead roles. Other actors and actresses starring in the film Namastey London are Rishi Kapoor, Nina Wadia, Clyde Stenden, Javed Sheikh, Upen Patel and Ritesh Deshmukh.
Story of the Film Namastey London:
The story of the film Namastey London centers round a London-bred rich spoilt brat Jasmeet and a Punjabi lad Arjun. Jasmeet or Jazz, as she is popularly known as, is bought up in London and rejects all Indian grooms selected by her Punjabi father Manmohan Singh (Rishi Kapoor).
She detests the idea of a traditional Indian marriage and prefers hanging out at night clubs till the wee hours of morning with her Pakistani friend Imran (Upen Patel) who is in live-in relation with his English girlfriend Suzanne. Jazz falls for and wants to marry Charlie Brown (Clive Standen), a playboy who has already married and divorced thrice.
Jazz's father takes her to his homeland Punjab, with the hope of getting her married to Arjun (Akshay Kumar). During their brief stay in Punjab, Arjun falls in love with the beauteous dame. Her father chooses him to be his prospective groom and almost forces Jazz to marry her. Miffed with her father's attempts to get her married, Jazz gets engaged to Arjun and then the duo goes to London.
It is here that the story takes an interesting turn. Jazz changes her mind and tells her Indian husband that the wedding was a showdown and that she does not accept him as her husband. She also informs Arjun that she wants to marry her British boyfriend Charlie Brown. Arjun accepts everything with stolid silence, though he continues to love her unconditionally.
Jazz's marriage with her British beau is almost fixed; Arjun takes her to alter, when Jazz again changes her mind and accepts him as her husband. The film has a happy ending with a message for all Indians who forget their cultures, living aboard.
Critical Review of the Film Namastey London:
The film Namastey London is thoroughly enjoyable. Both Ashay Kumar and Katrina Kaif have given stellar performance. Certain scenes like the first meeting of Arjun and Jazz, and Rishi Kapoor interviewing the prospective grooms keep you glued to your seat. The rugby match between the Indians and Britons is also a memorable moment in the film. Himesh Reshammiya comes up with rocking numbers like 'Takna Takna', Veeraaniyan' and 'Rafta Rafta'.
The film Namastey London is a family entertainer with a bitter-sweet note on patriotism.
