Khatta Meetha is supposed to be the best comedy film by director Basu Chatterjee. The film stands distinct from those Bollywood comedy films that are sugar-coated and contain forced comedy. Great entertainment is certainly guaranteed to the audience. As the film proceeds, the story takes interesting turns which will hold on to the interest of the viewers.

At the start of the film a deserving tribute is paid to the Parsi community around which the story of the film revolves. As an audience, you will find 2 Parsi families in the movie. One is headed by Homi Mistry, a character played by Ashok Kumar and the other is headed by Nargis Setna, a character played Pearl Padamsee.

Homi Mistry is a widower and he lives with his 4 sons in a small rented house. Each of the sons follows his individual likings and interest. The elder son Fali is a car mechanic. The next 2 sons are interested in music and cricket. The character of Nargis Setna is a widower who lives in a big home. Nargis has 2 sons and a daughter. All of them are interested in their own ways and Nargis has to do all the household chores by herself.

One day, both Homi Mistry and Setna get to know each other through a common friend. After many meetings, they decide to marry each other. Once the marriage is realized, Homi Mistry moves to the house belonging to Nargis. The twist in the story of the film comes at this stage. The respective siblings of Homi and Nargis do not feel comfortable living together. This funny situation leads to a series of hilarious moments which will really delight you.
