Hero No. 1 is another comic venture by director David Dhawan. He is famous for producing hilarious movies in Bollywood style. Hero No. 1 has similarities with some other Bollywood comedy movies and for the audience the movie was highly enjoyable. There is great comic timing of the actors and the plot itself develops around a very insignificant issue. This adds to the fun factor in the film produced in 1997.

Karishma Kapoor acted as Meena who is simple and goes to Europe for studies. Other characters in the movie are Rajesh`s father - Dhanraj, played by Kader Khan and Meena`s family members.
Meena`s grandfather`s character was played by Paresh Rawal, her uncles and aunts were portrayed by Himani Shivpuri, Tiku Talsania, Satish Shah and Shakti Kapoor.
Both the characters in the movie Hero No. 1, namely - Raju and Meena fall for each other while both were in Europe. Shanno who is Meena`s aunt accompanies her there. Shanno is funny and her flirting with young Rajesh enjoyable. Back home, both decide to marry but their fate is turned with a very comical incident. Rajesh`s father offends Meena`s grand father by splashing dirt on him while driving the car. Her grandfather recognizes him as his enemy for ever which, leads to Rajesh`s turning into Raju, their family servant. There is a riot of laughter when Raju`s father comes to meet him at Meena`s place in the guise of his grandfather. There is a police intervention due to the misplacement of some valuables and finally the truth revealed.
A typical David Dhawan movie, Hero No.1 has a rich music score. Even that has funny lyrics. As a fun filled family movie, Hero No. 1 can be grouped among those bordering humor and mirth. It also touched upon certain emotional aspects of the family members in the film. The way in which Rajesh conquers their hearts and unites them is a lesson to learn from.
