Coolie No.1 is one of the best Bollywood comedy movies. The films surrounds around an interesting plot and blasting comedy by the actors, specially Govinda. The movie was directed by Bollywood's renowned director of comedy films, David Dhawan. It is a drama between the rich and poor which Bollywood has often hovered around. This subject took a twist with excellent comic scenes turning it into a huge success. The movie was released in 1995.

Govinda acted as Raju who was a coolie or porter, Karishma Kapoor was his love interest and wife - Malti. Kanchan portrayed Malti's sister Kanchan, and her husband was acted by Harish- who was Deepak. There were two protagonists, Govinda and Kader Khan. Kader Khan was Choudhry Hoshiarchand who had a fascination for very rich people.

Sadashiv Amrapurkar was the matchmaker Shaadiram Gharjore who plots up the marriage and deceives Chowdhry in order to reach him a lesson. Other supporting characters were Shakti Kapoor, Tiku Talsania heightening the comedy in Coolie No.1.

The plot of this comedy movie is about the rich Hoshirachand who has very high opinions about rich people and would like her daughters to get married to them. Shaadiraam takes a marriage proposal from not a well to do family, hoshiarchand insults him to the extreme. Now Shaadiraam is revengeful and wants to trick him into getting his daughter married to Raju who is a coolie. Raju pretends to be the richest suiter in whole of Asia, but Malti and Raju both fall in love instantly. With this love factor working both enter into marriage and the film proceeds with the fear of exposure. There is suspense and efforts of covering up the lie until Hoshiarchand discovers the truth. More fun is evoked with Raju and Deepak dressing up as lady nurses.

There is a riot of laughter as the characters try hard not to reveal their identities in the hospital scene. Raju was also falsely charged with murder attempt but finally the person recovers and both Raju and Deepak is rewarded by him. This comedy movie ends with reconciliation between the son in law and the father in law as he was happy that finally Raju got rich, though coincidentally. There is the end of confusion and lies with a happy ending. Shaadiraam exposes his plan and choudhury is ashamed for being blinded by lust. Liked by Govinda fans, this movie was successful over all.
