The film was directed by Rohan Sippy, the son of veteran Bollywood film maker Ramesh Sippy. Bluffmaster was released on 16 December in the year 2005.

Roy, played by Abhishek Bacchan is a professional conman. He earns his living by duping gullible people. Despite having mastered this dubious art he is madly and above all truly in love with the honest Simmi, enacted by Priyanka Chopra. When they are about to get engaged, Simmi discovers the other side of his nature. Feeling duped she breaks off the relationship.

Roy tries his best to get back with her, but all his attempts fail. One day he meets Aditya Srivastav played by Ritesh Deshmukh, also known as Dittu, who is a simple man. They eventually become friends and later, partners.

Aditya asks Roy to teach him how to be a conman. Roy agrees to teach Aditya the art of the con. While playing the role of a con man maker Roy gets to know Dittu better and the 2 become the best of pals.

Soon, Roy gets afflicted with brain tumor. Doctors believed his days were numbered. When Simmi finds out about the tumor, she goes back to Roy. She sees that he is a changed man, and love blossoms between the two once again. Meanwhile Aditya seeks Roy's help to take revenge against his father's enemy Chandu. Roy manages to fool Chandu.

Having deceived Chandu he decides to go to Atlanta to get himself treated for his tumor. No sooner he collects all his con money for his treatment than he finds that Chandu has Simmi in custody. Roy sacrifices the money in order to save Simmi. During one interaction between the three Simmi leaves him alone with Chandu. Chandu pushes Roy off the roof.

As fate would have it Roy lands on a soft mat below the building. The public come up to him and ask which movie he is shooting for. Roy is speaks out the truth but no one believes him. Roy reflects upon the past and realizes that all the places he has been, were fakes. In the end it gets revealed that Aditya was seeking revenge against Roy for conning his father. Roy mands his ways, and agrees not to be a conman. He gets back together with Simmi too who was conning him.
