Released in 1999, 'Biwi No.1' is one of the famous Bollywood comedy movies of the year. The movie 'Biwi No.1' basically revolves around a man's unfaithfulness and infidelity, his falling in love and going out of wedlock. The movie is partly shot in the United States and Switzerland.

Prem Mehra (Salman Khan), a happily married man, is satisfied with his life but misses the spice in his married life. His wife Pooja (Karisma Kapoor) has very little time to go out with him and she is busy with performing the duties of a perfect Indian housewife. Rupali Walia (Sushmita Sen) is an over-ambitious model and to her life is all about luxury. She believes the easiest way to achieve it is to marry a billionaire. To fulfill her dreams and ambitions, she even rejects the marriage proposal from her best friend, Deepak (Saif Ali Khan).

Prem is the owner of an Advertising Agency and signs Rupali as a model. Then Prem starts liking her and plans a trip to Switzerland with her and is able to convince his family that he would go alone on the trip.

He takes Rupali along with him. At the airport, Prem meets his best friend, Lakhan (Anil Kapoor), his wife Lovely (Tabu) and his son. To add to his horror, Lakhan comes to know of Prem's extra-marital affair with Rupali.

Lovely spills the beans about Prem and his marriage. Rupali is still drawn by her lust for money and Prem buys a house, car for Rupali to keep her happy. But the truth comes out of the closet to Pooja. When she asks him to choose between the family and Rupali, unfortunately, Prem goes for the latter. Lakhan promises Pooja to get Prem back to his house, where he should be. Pooja and Lakhan draw out a plan to achieve their mission. With help from her mother in-law and her children, Lakhan and Pooja are able to make Prem realize his mistake.

Salman Khan has, perhaps for the first time, done justice to his role. Karisma and Sushmita have played their roles perfectly. The movie has some catchy songs like 'Hai Mirche', 'Ishq Chandi Hai' with the title song 'Biwi No. 1' and 'Jungle Hai Aadhi Raat Hai'.

All in all, 'Biwi No.1' with its commercial to the core entertainment, a decent story and theme, comedy, a multi-star cast, engaging performances and appealing tunes is a major success for David Dhawan.
