Like most of the Bollywood films of that time, this film too has action, romance, songs and dances. The director of Andar Bahar is Rajan Sippy and the film had been produced by Romu N. Sippy. The film was released under the banner of Uttam Chitra. The melodious songs of this film was composed by R. D. Burman and the lyricist is Gulshan Bawra. The songs in this film has been sung by Shailendra Singh, Suresh Wadkar and Asha Bhonsle. The film has an intricate plot and there are many artists in the film.

Star cast of Andar Bahar are Jackie Shroff as Inspector Ravi, Anil Kapoor as Raja who is a gangster, Kimi Katkar as Monica and Moon Moon Sen as Reema. There are many other actors who have played significant roles in the film. Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Kader Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Sulochana, Beena, Anita Raaj, Parikshit Sahani and Gurbachan have acted in this film. Danny Denzongpa is a notorious gangster Shera, whom Ravi wants to apprehend and the plot of Andar Bahar begins with this. Ravi is a plainclothes policeman but he is unable to get to Shera. No matter what he tries, Shera always seems to get away.



Raja played by Anil Kapoor is another gangster who is freed by special permission in order to help Ravi in nabbing Shera. When Ravi approaches Raja, to help him, Raja agrees instantly because he would then get his freedom and get on with his own agenda. What Ravi does not know is that Raja has other plans as soon as he is freed. The plot has many sub plots, with each character trying to out do the other in getting on with their own plans. In the end like all Bollywood films, Andar Bahar too has the bad defeated by the good and there is triumph.

The film made both the actors bag other roles with their impeccable acting. The songs and dance are colorful and adds spice to the plot of Andar Bahar. The role of Shera portrayed by Danny Denzongpa is one of the most powerful roles in the film and Jackie Shroff too does an excellent job of acting as a dutiful and righteous police officer. There are special appearances made by actors in the film. There are comic elements in this film as well.
