Trishul is considered to be one of the finest productions of the Chopras. Directed by Yash Chopra, Trishul was written by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. The role of an angry young man fighting against authority is yet again noticed in Trishul. Social issues get highlighted at the backdrop of an emotional drama. Soulful music and smart dialogues have ensured that Trishul remains etched in the memory of movie buffs for a long time.
A crisp setting and a plot that travels from a tiny locality in India to Delhi, Trishul deals with the plight of a modern Indian man rejected by mainstream society. Before Trishul was released at the box office, Amitabh Bachhan had already become famous as an action hero. The concept of angry young man and plight of a modern capitalist society was borrowed from the late Victorian English literature. Characters like Jimmy Porter in Look Back in Anger, always remained on the mind of the writers who conceived the plots for the Action movies.
Plot of Trishul
Trishul depicts the story of a young man in love with a simple girl. But search of wealth makes the man marry the daughter of a rich man. Waheeda Rehman plays the role of the ditched woman. Sanjeev Kumar, the construction engineer chose to settle down for a rich option and left his girlfriend when she was pregnant with his child. Waheeda leaves Delhi, and brings up her son with hardship. Amitabh Bachhan plays the role of the illegitimate son of Sanjeev Kumar.
On his mother's death bed, Amitabh promises to take revenge on his estranged father Sanjeev Kumar. With intelligence and diligence Amitabh sets up his own construction firm and reaches a status when he can compete with his father. Soon there comes a time when both the father and the son meet face to face. Dialogue flares up and emotions are high. Revenge is taken and mistakes realized. Rakhee the ace actor plays the role of an office secretory.
Shashi Kappor and Hema Malini play the role of second fiddles. All the actors are perfect and action is complete. Complications prevalent in a modern society are noticed with ease and conclusions can be drawn. The best part about the movies is centered on the two main characters, Sanjeev Kapoor and Amitabh Bachhan. Both actors are perfect in their role. Their performance is further enhanced by the twists that the plot takes towards the conclusion.
