Characters of Sholay
Sholay showcases the highly skilled performances of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan. Story of Sholay in a nutshell
Veeru and Jay are two petty criminals who are employed by Thakur to defend his village from the tyranny of Gabbar. These two thieves are caught by Thakur when they try to rob a train. However, Thakur hires the two for catching Gabbar Singh who has destroyed his entire family out of revenge.
Jay and Veeru accept the challenge. But during an encounter with Gabbar, Thakur does not take any action in helping Veeru by throwing him a gun; this impels them to retreat from their assigned task. The story then unveils Thakur's disability in helping Veeru in time of his danger; in a dramatic sequence the blowing wind removes his shawl and shows his amputated arms which were cut off by Gabbar some years back. Jay and Veeru thus, remain in the village ready to fulfill their words of giving Gabbar to Thakur. The story ends with the arrest of Gabbar and death of Jay. Veeru and Basanti together leave Ramgarh without knowing their destination.
Sholay is also regarded as the highest revenue grossing film of India. It was released in 1975 and ran for more than five years in one of the theatres of Mumbai. Sholay has created records in celebrating 60 golden jubilees throughout India. Thus, Sholay will remain as one of the best Bollywood actions films that have surpassed the limits of age and time in captivating audiences' mind.
