Shalimaar, released in 1978, is a popular thriller. Dharmendra and Zeenat Aman play leading roles in the star cast of Shalimaar. Smart direction calls for a plot that is dotted with arresting dialogues and interesting screen play. Cinematography in Shalimaar uses good angles for taking stills. Lights have been used accurately. Plot of Shalimaar
Shalimaar depicts the story of a secret service agent played by Dharmendra. He is in love with Zeenat Aman. Their love story is set in the backdrop of a dramatic tale where Dharmendra has to retrieve the stolen diamond Shalimaar. The plot of Shalimaar concentrates on the duties of a secret service agent, who must break some rules in order to serve his nation.
The story takes a sudden turn when Dharmendra has to spend a night with an underworld lady in order to obtain information about Shalimaar. Zeenat Aman mistakes this as infidelity and their relationship takes a beating. In the meantime, the criminals who stole Shalimaar, are out to harm Dharmendra. He saves himself with his fighting skills and presence of mind.
The story moves fast as the stolen diamond is kept in a secured place. Protected with strict security, stealing Shalimaar is a tough task. In the mean time, Zeenat Aman joins the gang leader as his nurse. The gang leader who stole Shalimaar soon calls for a contest in the middle of an island. Best thieves from all over the world come to the island, in order to steal the jewel.
Dharmendra too arrives at the venue. The two estranged lovers meet on a bad note, but both promise to help each other out of the island. Dramatic moments follow and Dhramendra finally retrieves the diamond, defeating a whole lot of other fellow contestants. Later Zeenat Aman comes to know about the secret mission and forgives his love. Good senses resolve and peace is restored in the life of the young lovers.
The music of Shalimaar deserves a special mention due to their heart wrenching numbers. Kishore Kumar has added voice to the wonderful music of Shalimar. His songs bagged awards for their musical score. The scenes shot in the island added special effects to the movie. The storyline and screenplay of Shalimaar earned rave reviews and commendable comments from all corners of the society.
