Shaan - Introduction -
Shaan is one of the most popular action movies of Bollywood, which was released in 1980. Shaan was the second film by Ramesh Sippy in which he worked with Amitabh Bachchan. Story of this Bollywood action film was written by Salim-Javed.

Success of Shaan -
Prior to the release of Shaan viewers expected the movie to be equally popular as Sholay. Sholay, casting Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar, was a blockbuster movie by Ramesh Sippy.

Shaan was a great hit, but its popularity could not surpass that of Sholay. Ramesh Sippy was successful only in casting Amitabh Bachchan and engaging R.D. Burman, a great maestro of Indian film music.

Music of Shaan, composed by R. D. Burman was honored with a Filmfare Award nomination for the category of Best Music, one of the two nominations received by the film.

Making of Shaan -
Shaan was made over a time span of three years due to the busy schedules of the star casts. Shaan was inspired by the movies of James Bond with attractive sets and gorgeous costumes whereas Sholay was influenced by spaghetti western and American western movies. Blofield, a villain in James Bond films was the basis of the character Shakaal. Kulbhushan Kharbanda played the role of Shakaal.

Synopsis of Shaan -
Shaan is a story about taking revenge. Shiv Kumar is a cop in the film who is killed by Shakaal, an infamous criminal. Ravi and Vijay, brothers of Shiv Kumar, eventually takes their revenge against Shakaal. They pose as parts of a musical group and go into the island, on which Shakaal lives. Their girlfriends also accompany them to the island and help them in their mission.

Cast of Shaan -
The lead roles in Shaan were played by the then famous Bollywood actors. The role of Ravi Kumar was played by Shashi Kapoor whereas Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Vijay Kumar. Sunil Dutt performed for the role of Shiv Kumar. Sunita was played by Parveen Babi while Bindiya Goswami played the role of Renu. Sheetal Kumar was played by Rakhee Gulzar. Helen had a special appearance in Shaan.

Nominations and Awards received by Shaan -
S.M. Anwar was honored with the Filmfare Best Cinematographer Award for Shaan. R. D. Burman also received for the category of Best Music in the Filmfare Awards.
