Naseeb, released in the year of 1981, was both directed and produced by Manmohan Desai. With all its romantic elements, Naseeb is often regarded as one of the best Bollywood action movies. This Hindi action movie was, in some respect, similar to the typical films of Manmohan Desai. The film casts the Amitabh Bachchan and a number of star actors like Hema Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Reena Roy, Shatrughan Sinha, Kim, Kader Khan, Pran, Amrish Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Amjad Khan.
The plot of Naseeb seems to be a bit complicated. Moreover, throughout each and every moments of the film, you cannot but hold your concentration and attention to what is happening, and looks forward to what happens next. The film, basically tries to show what fate can do to a man. It seems that everything that is happening is being done by fate of destiny.
Irony in Naseeb plays no less important role. Namdev decides to share the lottery ticket with three of his other friends, Damu, Raghu and Jaggi. Damu and Raghu are advantage seekers and they kill the other friend. They even hurt Numdev and when he jumps from a bridge, they take him to be dead. Years later it is found that Damu and Raghu are well established now. Vicky (Satrughan Sinha), the son of Damu is sent abroad for studies while Johnny (Amitabh), the son of Namdev is employed in the hotel that Damu and Raghu run.
There is also a twist in the love affairs in this film. Vicky and Johnny fall in love with the same woman. Another woman, again, is in love with Vicky. Ultimately, it is discovered that the woman who loves Vicky and the woman whom Vicky loves are two sisters, and, they are the daughters of Jaggi. In the meantime, Namdev has returned to avenge what had been done to him. So goes on the story with a lot of twists dominated by fate and destiny.
It would be quite wrong to have the idea that Naseeb is all about fate and destiny. It is also about love, friendship, sacrifice, sentiment, psychology, trait, revenge and anger. With all these elements, Naseeb was a hit at the box office in the year in which it was released.
