Released in 1982, Namak Halal is one of the popular Bollywood action movies. Directed by Prakash Mehra this is one of the best movies of Amitabh Bachhan. Namak Halal has a unique blend of family drama, comedy and action. This is one of the few movies in Bollywood that is remembered by thousands of movie lovers in India still today.

Plot of Namak Halal: Arjun Singh, a village boy, ( played by Amitabh Bachhan) is brought up by his 'dadu', grandfather ( played by Om Prakash). Arjun Singh comes to city in search of job. Arjun meets with Bhairon (played by Ram P.Sethi) who helps Arjun to find a descent job in a five star hotel as a waiter. The hotel is owned by Raja (played by Sashi Kapoor). Arjun eventually meets with Poonam (played by Smita Patil) and falls in love with her. Meanwhile, some relatives of Raja plan to kill him to take his property. However, it is Arjun Singh who saves the life of Raja. Raja thinks it is his foster mother who plans to kill him; this lady happens to be the biological mother of Arjun.



Music of Namak Halal: The movie has great music composed by Bappi Lahiri. For the first time Bappi Lahiri used Indian version of techno and disco beats in the songs of Namak Halal. Popular number from the movie include 'Pag ghungroo baandh', 'Thodi si jo pili hai', 'Aaj rapat jaiyoo' and Jawani jaaneman haseen dilruba'.

Star cast of Namak Halal: Amitabh Bachhan, Sashi Kapoor, Smita Patil, Waheeda Rehman and Parveen Babi featured in this movie. Other star casts in supporting roles were Dev Kumar, Suresh Oberoi, Asha Lata, Tun Tun and so on. The movie was directed by Prakash Mehra and produced by Satyendra Pal.

Awards for Namak Halal: The immense popularity of the movie fetched the film crew several awards. This popular blockbuster movie was rewarded with many prestigious film awards in different categories. The movie was also nominated for various categories of awards. Kishore Kumar received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1982 for the song 'Paag ghunghroo Baandh Meera nachi thee'. The film also received Filmfare award nominations in 1982 for Best Lyrics, Best Actor, Best Actor in Supporting Role and Best Music.
