Story of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission Kashmir
In the movie Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a police officer named Inayat Khan who is posted in Kashmir. He has been entrusted with the responsibility of the security of the state. The story starts with his son, Irfaan injured in an accident. Every hospital in the city refuses to treat his son due to a fatwa declared by the leader of a Kahmiri terrorist group. Eventually the son dies. To avenge the death of his son and eliminate the terrorist group, he opens fire on the terrorist group. During this encounter between the police and the terrorists, an entire family is also killed. The only survivor of this tragedy is a child named Altaaf.
Altaaf only remembers the masked face of the person who killed his family. Sanjay Dutt adopts this orphan child whose parents died by his hands. The role of Altaaf is played by Hritik Roshan. As young Altaaf stays in Sanjay Dutt's home, he becomes close to Neelima, wife of Inayat Khan, played by Sonali Kulkarni. He loves her as his mother and calls her ' Ammi'. One day he gets to know that Sanjay Dutt killed his family and runs away from home. He is adopted by Hilal Kohistani, the leader of a terrorist group, played by Jackie Shroff. Altaaf is trained to become a terrorist. Altaaf is instigated by Hilal to spread violence in Kashmir Valley. He also promises to avenge the death of his family. When he plots to kill Inayat Khan by a bomb explosion, Neelima dies instead. Later, Altaaf realizes that he is being used by Jackie Shroff to meet his selfish goals. He teams up with Sanjay Dutt to fight against the terrorist group .
Music of Mission Kashmir
The music album of the film has 7 songs- all of which topped the charts of almost all music shows on both radio and television, after hitting the market. Some of the popular songs were 'Chupke Se Sun', 'Bumbro' and ' Socho Ke Jheelon Ka'.
