International Khiladi directed by Umesh Mehra, came to be released on 26th March in the year of 1999. It is one of the most popular Bollywood action movies. The screenplay writer of International Khiladi is also Umesh Mehra while the dialogues of this film has been developed by Ved Prakash Sharma. International Khiladi stars Bollywood actors and actresses like Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Rajat Bedi, Vivek Shag, Gulshan Grover, Mukesh Khanna and Jhonny Lever.

Though International Khiladi has been accepted by the general audience to be a great action movie, the fact remains that it lacks the density of thrills and suspense which might have been supposed to be the principal spice for the film. For certain reasons, it could not be executed. The story of this film is average in standard, though there is an evident attempt to let the suspense reach a classic dimension.

Devraj, played by Akshay Kumar, is the new boss in the world of the criminals. Payal,a reporter, and her cameraman have been assigned with the task of having an interview with Devraj. The role of Payal has been played by Twinkle Khanna. Eventually, Devraj as well as Payal fall in love with each other. Bismillah, played by Mukesh Khanna, is in all opposition to this affair between Payal and Devraj. Payal's brother Ravi and Police Inspector Amit are also in opposition to this affair.

One day, Ravi is killed, and, the prime suspect is Devraj. Payal also believes that Devraj is somehow responsible for the murder of her brother. Devraj is sentenced to be hanged till death. Devraj, anyhow, manages to escape and, sets out for his mission to take revenge against those who planned conspiracies against him and murdered Ravi. He is also enraged for the behaviour of Payal. The ending of International Khiladi is a happy one with Devraj fulfilling his mission. The misunderstanding between him and Payal is also cleared up.

Gulshan Grover and Akshay Kumar did really well in International Khiladi. Twinkle Khanna could have been a bit more matured. The film evidently seems to have concentrated much on the action scenes. It is in this film that Akshay proves that he can make himself fit for any kind of role. The story has enough of suspense. But it would have been netter of the suspense could be a bit more planned and systematic. The music in International Khiladi is not all too bad, though it is nothing extraordinary. Johnny lever, as always, has held his own spirit, providing the audience with useful comic reliefs.
