Story of The Great Gambler:
The film The Great Gambler is about an expert gambler. Amitabh Bachchan who plays the role of Jai is an expert gambler, and has never lost a game. His gambling skills draws the attention of the underworld don Saxena played by Utpal Dutt. Saxena hires him for getting him work for him. Jai agrees to work for him and wins a large amount of money from rich people. Unknowingly, Jai also tries to entrap Nath who is actually a government officer. When Nath loses in gambling, he is compelled to reveal the blueprints of a top-secret military laser weapon that is capable of hitting any target within 50 miles.

Then the case is assigned to the well known police officer Inspector Vijay played by Amitabh Bachchan again. Vijay is asked to act as Jai and solve the mystery. On the other hand, Jai goes to Lisbon to marry his girl friend Neetu Singh with the plan of winning her father's huge property. Jai runs into Shabnam (Zeenat Aman), who is a well known a club dancer and has been sent by Saxena's men to allure Vijay and eventually bring him to Saxena. However, Shabnam mistakes Jai for Vijay and in the course of events, Jai is kills Saxena's former henchman in order to retrieve the blueprints of the laser weapon.

In the course of events, Jai and Vijay come face to face and get to know that they are actually twins who got separated in their childhood. The duo joins hands and decides to kill Saxena and his men and to put an end to their evil activities. Finally, the two brothers succeed in their mission and are married to the two heroines in the film.
