Gadar has been one of the most successful movies in Bollywood in the past few years. Released in 2001, the movie was a super hit and performed well at the box office. The movie was starred by Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri and Amisha Patel. Gadar was produced by Nitin Keni and directed by Anil Sharma. The movie has great music directed by Uttam Sing and lyrics Anand Bakshi.
Plot for Gadar: The movie is a love story shot in the background of communal riots. The main character of the movie is Tara Singh, played by Sunny Deol. After a communal riot broke in the city, Tara gave shelter to a Muslim girl, Sakina. Both of them fall in love and eventually get married and are blessed with a son. The couple lives in the city of Amritsar. Sakina gets shocked when she find her father (played by Amrish Puri) is back in town whom she thought was dead in the riot. Sakina's father has now become a respectable mayor of Lahore, Pakistan. Sakina's father makes arrangements for Sakina to return to Lahore to meet the family; however, he had other plans in mind, which Sakina is unaware of.
Upon her arrival to Lahore, her father forces her to get married to a Muslim guy and persuade her to forget Tara and her son in Amritsar. Finally, Tara makes a cross border journey to find his love, Sakina. The movie is filled with thrill, actions and some great music.
Box office review of Gadar: Gadar had been one of the major successes in the box office. The film was made with a budget of 18 crores and grossed about 70 crore rupees. The movie has made a record for being one of the highest grossing Hindi movies followed by Dhoom 2 after 5 years.
Star cast of Gadar: Apart from Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel, other star casts of the movie were Suresh Oberoi, Amrish Puri, Mushtaq Khan, Pramod Mautho and so on.
Awards won by Gadar: Gadar won prestigious awards for its contribution to film industry. The movie received International Indian Film Academy Awards in different categories. Sunny Deol got best actor in leading role while Amisha Patel received best actress award in leading role. The movie also won the award for direction, best story and best picture in 2001. Tinu Anand received best action Filmfare award while Amisha Patel received special Filmfare award.
