Released in 1978, Don happens to be one of those movies which redefined Hindi film making in India. Studded with a banner of professional actors, Don won several awards and prizes soon after its release. Amitabh Bachhan plays the leading protagonist in Don. Zeenat Aman, Pran and Helen play important roles in the plot.

The plot of Don is such that, Amitabh plays a double role. Amitabh received accolades for both these roles and the movie received rave reviews. Chandra Barot directed Don and Nariman A. Irani produced the movie. The music of Don was composed by the duo of Kalyanji-Anandji. The grooving music of Don continues to interest the public even today. Asha Bhonsle, the lead female singer of the movie won Filmfare award for her efforts in Don.

Plot of Don

The plot of Don is heavily dependent on the fact of coincidence. As the movie opens we see Amitabh Bachhan as the Don of a gang of criminals. He is being traced by police and finally tracked down.

However, Don is chased and gets killed by the police. In order to arrest the other members of his gang, a look-alike of the dead Don is planted. As the plot moves we are introduced to other characters and subplots.

Vijay who plays the role of Don in disguise agrees to provide relevant information about the rest of the gang provided the police officer takes care of a couple of children. Jasjit, Vijay's friend has also an important role in the plot. In the mean time, the police officer who killed actual Don is killed by Malik. Malik introduces himself as the Interpol officer but in reality he is the kingpin of the entire gang.

Amidst all these confusion, the diary where Vijay's true identity is hidden is put under the scanner. Vijay himself looks for the diary, lest Malik retrieves the diary before him! In the meantime, Roma, keen to take revenge on the original Don realizes that the original Don is dead. With the police officer D'silva getting killed in crossfire, Don is chased by both the police officers and his own gang. For the gang too begins to realize that Vijay is not original Don. Fights follow and confusion increases, till Vijay escapes with the help of Roma. Zeenat Aman, Pran, Kamal Kapoor and Arpana Choudhury play other major roles in the movie.
