One of the highest revenue grosser of Bollywood industry in the recent years, Dhoom as a Bollywood action movie was an instant hit when it reached the theaters. Dhoom is one of the gen-X movies that captured the young audiences of the film industry with its scenes of bravado and high level entertainment. This is capitalized in its thrilling technically improvised action scenes. Dhoom was the production of Yash Raj Films and was released in 2004.
A whole new genre of action films with fast paced robbery scenes and intense excitement and thrill started with the release of Dhoom. Especially with the sequel of Dhoom in Dhoom 2, we see the phenomenal popularity of action scenes that previously were almost a monopoly of Hollywood films. The plot of Dhoom revolves around a gang of motorcyclists who conduct a series of robberies in and around Mumbai. With the usage of sophisticated equipment, especially the use of scientific gadgets and latest motorbikes, no doubt Dhoom has come as one of the most thrilling films in Bollywood. This particular gang on which the film revolves robs numerous banks and motor vans and then simply disappears. Some of the scenes of Dhoom may be inspired from the Hollywood film, Speed.
The audience is then introduced to the no-nonsense ACP Jai Dixit, played by Abhishek Bacchan who was after the gang. He takes the help of one of their soft partners named Ali, played by Uday Chopra. When the gang goes for one of their largest operations in Goa, Jai Dixit is successful to play the gang into a trap. At the end of the film, we see rather ambiguously Kabir, one of the leading gang members riding off his bike at the end of the cliff, creating the suspense of his possible death or escape. This also helps in furthering the sequel for Dhoom, cashing on the genuine curiosity of the audiences of the first part of Dhoom.
Dhoom has some great tracks including the impressive title track "Dhoom Dhoom" that was released by a Thai-American singer in a remixed version. The novelty of the songs ensured its sweeping success at the Indian film and popular music awards in 2004. The movie was also unfortunately responsible for a crime committed in the Malappuram district of Kerala. A group of criminals here were responsible for robbing a Gramin bank of 25 lakhs and large amounts of gold. They later confessed their bravado being inspired by this popular Bollywood action film.
