Dharam Veer is a comedy directed as well as produced by Manmohan Desai. The film Dharam Veer was released in the year 1977 and based on the tried and tasted formula of Manmohan Desai i.e "separation and reunion".
The story of the film 'Dharam Veer' unfolds in a mythical kingdom. In this film Dharmendra plays the role of Dharam and Jeetendra plays the role of Veer. Zeenat Aman is the love interest of Dharmendra and Neetu Singh, the love of Jeetendra.
In the story, both Dharam and Veer are brothers and heir to a kingdom. Maharani Meenakshi, their mother is one day rescued from the clutches of a tiger by Pran, a hunter named Jwala Singh. Though both the queen who is then a princess and the hunter falls in love with each other, they can not marry because of their different social status. Both Dharam and Veer are the sons of Jwala Singh and Meenakshi.
Meenakshi's brother, Satpal Singh is meanwhile told by a prophet that he would be killed by his elder nephew. To escape his death, Satpal decides to come and stay with Meenakshi. When the first son of Meenakshi is born, Satpal played by Jeevan throws the son out of a window. However, the child is rescued by the pet hawk of Pran (Jwala Singh). He is brought up by a blacksmith and his wife. The second son of Meenakshi is interchanged by Satpal Singh with his own son. Incidentally, these children were again swapped by his wife without his knowledge. Since Satpal regards the prince as his own son, he abuses his original son thinking him to be his nephew.
On a chance meeting, Dharam and Veer know each other and become friends. Together they take part in many adventures and find the love of their life. At this time, Satpal comes to know that the prince is actually his nephew. He decides to kill him and hatches a plot against both Dharam and Veer. He chooses to sabotage with a chariot built by Dharam's foster father. As a result, a soldier loses his hands and as per the law of the country, the blacksmith's hands are chopped off too. This leads to a rift between Dharam and Veer. Next Satpal kills Dharam's foster mother by using an arrow of Veer. Dharam accuses Veer of murdering his mother and asks Meenakshi to parent him. Though Veer objects to this, Meenakshi agrees and comes to stay with Dharam.
Now Veer challenges Dharam to a duel and when both fight to kill each other, the blacksmith appears and tells how he found Dharam. Meenakshi realizes that Dharam is also her son and thus the two brothers separated at birth, reunites. They then start a fight against their uncle, cousin and their associates and finally emerge victorious.
