The Story of the Film Coolie:
In the film Coolie a wealthy man Zafar Khan, falls for a girl named Salma and he wants to marry her. However, she refuses to marry him and her father strongly disapproves the marriage. Meanwhile, Zafar is arrested for his notorious activities. Salma gets married to Aslam Khan. Zafar Khan comes out of jail after 10 long years of imprisonment and now wants to convince Salma into marrying him. But Salma refuses to marry him.



Zafarvery angry with her refusal decides to take revenge upon Salma. He hills her father and also attacks Aslam and Salma. As a result, salma gets seriously injured and loses her memory. In the melee she also loses her son Iqbal. Zafar makes use of this opportunity and tells everybody that Salma is his wife. Zafar also adopts an infant from an orphanage in Kanpur, a boy named Sunny. He does this for the early recovery of Salma on the advice of a psychiatrist.

In the course of events, Iqbal is reunites with his uncle, who raises Iqbal as his own son. After he grows up, Iqabal works as a coolie with his uncle. Iqbal grows up to be a handsome and confident young man. Iqbal also becomes the leader of the local coolies. Iqbal organizes a labor strike, which sends alarming signal. The story is covered by a young reporter, named Sunny. Gradually Iqbal and Sunny become close friends, and both find love, Iqbal falls in love with a Christian girl and Sunny falls in love with his childhood sweetheart.

Meanwhile, there is a bank scandal and Iqbal encounters Zafar. At the end, Salma gets her memory back and recollects all incidents. Iqbal reunites with his long-lost father.

Critical Review of Coolie:
Amitabh is at his best in the film Coolie. He has given a marvelous performance. It is because of his popularity, that the ending of the film had to be changed. Amitabh Bachchan also hurt himself in one of the scenes in the film Coolie and he took a long time to recover from it.
