Of the many popular action movies in Bollywood mention may be of C.I.D. This is a 1956 Indian Hindi film. As soon as C.I.D was released, it gained a huge box-office response.

C.I.D was a crime thriller. The film was produced by Guru Dutt and was directed by Raj Khosla. Raj Khosla was one of the top directors in Hindi films from the 1950's to the 1980's. He is credited for making Amitabh Bachchan and Dev Anand a super-star. Moreover Khosla was known as a "women's director," because he showcased actresses at their best.

C.I.D had a fantastic cast crew. The film starred Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman and Shakila. The music of C.I.D was given by O.P.Nayyar and the lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The songs were a huge success.

The choreography of this film was done by Zohra Sehgal. At present she is more popular as a soft kind-hearted granny seen in Veer Zara, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam. The costume designer was Bhanumati while the script-writer was Inder Raj Anand.

Dev Anand is the protagonist and he plays the role of a C.I.D. Inspector. His reel name is Shekhar. He is investigating the murder of a newspaper editor. Master played by Johny Walker is a common thief. He is arrested as the murder suspect. But soon Shekhar realizes that the murderer is someone else and is finds out the person. The murderer is Sher Singh played by Mehmood and Shekhar is after him. Shekhar chases him but Singh escapes in Rekha's car( Shakila). Master is released by Shekhar later on.

Sher Singh is ultimately arrested but Shekhar. Knowing that he is only the front man, Shekhar, continues the investigation. He is bribed by a mysterious woman Kamini played by Waheeda Rehman to stop investigation, but he refuses. Love blossoms between Shekhar and Rekha. Meanwhile, at the prison, Sher Singh is killed by the fellow prisoners and Shekhar is charged of his murder.

C.I.D was the outcome of a verbal treaty between Dev Anand and Guru Dutt. Both of them were desperate for making a niche for themselves in respective areas. They promised each other that Dev would give Guru Dutt a film to direct and in return Guru Dutt would cast Dev in his forthcoming film as a hero and direct him. Dutt kept half his promise by offering Dev the main role but did not direct the movie.
