Charas is one of the most well known Hindi thrillers. Set in the backdrop of modern India, Charas talks about illicit trafficking of drugs and other harmful items. The underworld is shown in its full light in Charas. Jimmy Shergil, Uday Chopra, Irfan Pathan, Hrishita Bhatt, Namrata Shirodkar and Adam Bedi consist of the main star cast in Charas.

Charas began an altogether different era in the field of Hindi cinema. Like most of the angry young man movies, in Charas we see the fight of a class of people against the prevalent system. The plot of Charas deals with the issue of drug and its effects on the younger generation. Charas shows the vicious circle that drug trafficking promises to introduce. Jimmy Shergill's role is worth mentioning in Charas. It is the journey from a civilized society to a nomadic life. The jungles are scary and incidents taking place in the jungle are often beyond the control of human beings.



The lawlessness of the jungles leave an impact on the incumbents and it is brilliantly portrayed through the performance of the protagonists. Due to its unique storyline, Charas continues to be one of the special Bollywood movies. Direction and use of camera is simply superb in Charas. The eerie feeling created within the jungle is the product of a creative thought process. Light and costumes have also been aptly chosen.

There are some unexpected twists in the plot. Some portions of the movie may appear to be flat due to chaotic action and irrelevant dialogues. On the whole however, Charas does unfurl some of the grave details about modern society and the beast that resides within the heart of every modern man.

The plot of Charas incorporates villains from all sections of the society. Beginning from the Italian mafias hiding in the forests to the Afghani terrorists, politicians and local dacoits, Charas highlights all kinds of social crime and criminals. The open shoot out scene at chandni chowk in Delhi, between the Afghan terrorists and Policemen has been sot with immaculate accuracy.
