Akela is yet another of the famous action movies of Amitabh Bachhan. The movie shows the corruption prevalent in the society and the loopholes prevalent in the judicial system. Like most action movies of the day, Akela castes Amitabh Bachhan as the leading protagonist. Jackie Shroff, Aditya Pancholi and Shashi Kapoor play important roles in the movie.
The main message in the movie Akela is to question the judicial system of the country. Since law asks for eye witness as evidence for a crime, criminals get away from the clutches of law. The plot takes various turns as the story reaches its climax. Finally good sense prevails and the good ones are served well. Akela, the film shows the vulnerability of law in India.
Plot of Akela
The plot of Akela revolves around Amitabh Bachhan. He plays the role of a police officer, who wants to bring about positive changes in the society. But his fight with the system meets a dead end when he is unable to prove a case of robbery in the court. Akela shows how a police officer is often forced to leave the criminals on bail in spite of his knowledge about the crime.
Shashi Kapoor plays the role of a senior police officer in Akela. He directs Amitabh's frustrations against the society through the legal means. Although Amitabh is an able police officer, he remains drunk for most part of the day. His erratic lifestyle brings him close to bar dancer Sapna. They get emotionally involved and a love story brews up.
The plot moves at a fast pace and Amitabh emerges victorious in the end. Villains play an important role in pointing out the activities prevalent in the underworld. Akela shows how people from the government and police force also play an important role as partners in crime. Since law is helpless, these anti socials continue with their illicit activities. In Akela, Amitabh is a lone fighter, who is out there to bring about social transformation.
Cinematography and use of camera in Akela is brilliant. Light and shadows have been used brilliantly to create the perfect backdrop for an action movie. The action sequences are shot with moving camera and zooming shots. The location of outdoor shooting for Akela is beautiful. Most of the action shots have been shot on outdoor locations. However, indoor shoots like police station and bank were shot within the studio.
