The film begins with the contradiction of Kancha Cheena and a village schoolmaster, Dinanath Chavan. Dinanath opposes the smuggling plans of the gangster Kancha. Dinanath had to face tremendous assault and was murdered by Kancha. Dinanath`s family had to leave the village. Vijay, Dinanath`s son swears to take revenge of the brutality done to his family by the villain.

With the passing of time Vijay himself becomes a gangster who earned enough notoriety in his own field. He suffers a murderous attempt by his fellows due to contradictions for drug smuggling. Severely injured and about to die, Vijay is discovered by Krishnan Iyer M.A who finally saves his life. Iyer is appointed as the bodyguard of Vijay`s sister Sikha.

The story moves on and presents Vijay taking his revenge against his fellows who attempt to murder him. But his mother strongly opposes his gangster tendencies. Vijay is driven away from his own home being chastised by his mother. Vijay finds solace in the arms of Mary, the nurse who has attended Vijay, in the hospital.

There is a growing relationship between Vijay and Mary and Krishnan and Sikha. You will also find Vijay turning into the right path for regaining his mother`s favor. But Vijay again opts for the "path of fire" to rescue his family from the grip of Cheena. The story ends with the death of Vijay after killing Cheena and the realization of his mother that Vijay had opted for wrong paths only to avenge his family`s disaster caused by Cheena.
