Shantanu Moitra, born in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most renowned music composers in the Bollywood film industry. Music has always been an integral part of Shantanu's life. He drew immense pleasure from music and always wanted this passion and hobby of him to be his future career.

At a later stage of his life, he with his family shifted their base to Delhi. He acquired a degree in economics from the Delhi University. With the dream of making a place for himself in the industry, he shifted his base further to Mumbai in 2002.

Musical career of Shantanu Moitra in Bollywood
Shantanu Moitra started off his musical career in this industry as a popular composer for Indipop albums. Two of his most successful albums were Mann Ke Manjeere and Ab Ke Saawan. People still remember those songs and feel groovy with the tapping numbers.
He received his primary breakthrough in the Bollywood film industry with the movies Leela and Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi. Both the movies brought about a completely different style, which appealed to the masses. His tremendous efforts were understandable from the unique musical compositions.
In 2002, with the release of Parineeta's music, Shantanu Moitra soared to immense recognition and limelight. His Bengali culture and music reflected through the melodious music of Parineeta. Every number was carefully composed, emphasizing on each emotion, silence, trauma and relationship of the movie. Some of the hit tracks of Parineeta are 'Piyu Bole', 'Raat Hamari', 'Kaisi Paheli' and 'Kasto Mazaa Le'.
Handful of the other music creations of Shantanu Moitra is for movies like Laage raho Munna Bhai, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. One of his forthcoming movies is Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, which will be released in 2008
