Naushad

Naushad is one of the most Popular Musicians in Bollywood. He gave many hit songs which are still popular and receives good response even today. Naushad is also well known for his unique Indian classical musical compositions. A glimpse at the life of Naushad gives us details about his humble beginnings. Facts reveal that Naushad was born and brought up in Lucknow. He studied classic Hindustani music under teachers as Ustad Ghurbat Ali, Ustad Yusuf Ali, and Ustad Babban Saheb. Naushad later moved to Mumbai in the late 1930s to try his luck as a musician. After initial struggle, he landed in a job as a musician in a studio orchestra.

He scored his first film in 1940. From 1942 till the late 1960s, he was rated as one of the top music directors in the Bollywood film business. Naushad worked with lyricists including Shakeel Badayuni, Majrooh Sultanpuri, D. N. Madhok, Zia Sarhadi and Barabankvi with whose co-operation he gave some great hits. Naushad delivered great hits during the 60's and 70's. As Western music changed the scenario of Indian film Naushad's music suffered a setback. Not doubt, Naushad was was a great master, but in demand only for historical movies where traditional score was required. In 1981, Naushad was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.
